Does Target price match Amazon? (2026)

Updated October 2026 · Checked against Target's published policies

Short answer: no. Target does not price match Amazon, Walmart, or any other competitor in 2026. Its Price Match Guarantee now covers only Target's own prices: Target.com, your local Target store, and automatic Target Circle deals. This has been confirmed by Target leadership, and it matches the wording of Target's published policy.

If you have seen older blog posts or forum threads saying you can bring an Amazon listing to Guest Services, those are out of date. Below is what the current policy actually covers, what it excludes, and how to get the most out of a price match that does qualify.

What Target's price match covers now

Target's Price Match Guarantee says it will match the price if you buy a qualifying item at Target and then find the identical item for less at:

  • Target.com (including the Target app showing your current store's price)
  • Your Target store (for Target.com purchases)
  • An automatic Target Circle deal, meaning a deal that applies on its own once you identify yourself as a Circle member

You can ask at the time of purchase or within 14 days after purchase. The item must be identical: same brand, size, weight, color, quantity and model number.

That's the whole list. Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy and other retailers aren't on it, and Target also excludes in-store matches from a different Target store. See our rule: Price match to Amazon/Walmart.

Why you'll still see "Target matches Amazon" online

For years Target did match a list of named competitors, and a lot of coupon sites still repeat that line in their evergreen FAQ sections. Search results and comparison-shopping sites also cache old pages. Target's own help page addresses this: it does not price match items on comparison-shopping sites, and prices must be validated by a team member on Target.com or Target's digital ad.

The practical rule is simple. If the lower price isn't on Target.com, in your Target store, or in an automatic Circle deal, the register and Guest Services won't match it.

The price match that's actually worth using: 14-day Circle deal drops

The most useful part of the current policy is the one most shoppers forget. If you buy something and an automatic Target Circle deal drops its price within 14 days, you can go back and request the difference. Target leadership confirms that stores reliably honor this when you bring proof of the deal and your receipt.

Two details matter:

  • Automatic deals only. Target Circle Bonuses (the personalized, tap-to-add offers) can't be used with price match. Only deals that apply automatically when you identify as a member qualify.
  • Proof of membership. Target requires you to be signed in, sign up, or enter your mobile number to prove the Circle deal price.

What stacks with a Target price match

Once you have a valid match, a few things still stack on top. Others don't:

  • Circle Card 5%: stacks. Target's FAQ says yes, you can use the Circle Card 5% discount on a price-matched item or order. (rule)
  • Manufacturer coupons: partly. They're applied after the price match, and only for in-store purchases. (rule)
  • Target coupons and Circle Bonuses: no. Target coupons, Circle Bonuses, registry completion coupons and gift card offers can't be combined with a price match. (rule)
  • Gift card promos: no. If you got a promotional Target GiftCard with the purchase, or the item currently has a gift card promotion, it can't be price matched. (rule)

What Target won't price match, even on its own prices

Target's published exclusions are long. These are the ones that come up most often at Guest Services:

  • Clearance, closeout and liquidation pricing
  • Damaged, open-package, refurbished or pre-owned items
  • Discounts on a total store or site purchase, and deals that require a minimum purchase
  • Bundled offers, free items, rebates and mail-in offers
  • Pre-order items, optical, pharmacy and clinic purchases
  • Pricing caused by typographical errors

Also note that price matches of Target.com prices or app prices aren't available in Alaska and Hawaii, and Target items can't be matched to Target Plus (third-party partner) items.

How to request a Target price match, step by step

  1. Find the lower Target price on Target.com or in the app, with the app set to the store you're standing in.
  2. Keep it live on your phone. Target says screenshots and pictures aren't accepted. A team member verifies the price on a Target device.
  3. Bring your receipt (physical or digital) if you already bought the item and you're within 14 days.
  4. Go to checkout or Guest Services in store. For Target.com orders, use online chat or call Guest Services.
  5. Identify as a Circle member if you're matching a Circle deal price.

If you really want the Amazon price

Since a competitor match isn't an option, your realistic choices are:

  • Buy where it's cheaper. No policy trick will get you Amazon's price at a Target register.
  • Wait for a Circle deal. If you buy at Target and a Circle deal drops within 14 days, request the adjustment.
  • Stack instead of match. A Circle deal plus one manufacturer coupon plus the Circle Card 5% can sometimes beat a competitor's sticker price. Use our cart stack calculator to check the real number before you decide.
